Paige has led Aeris since May 2007 during a transformative period in its history. Under her leadership, Aeris became an independent corporation (“CARS Inc.”), increased ratings volume by eightfold, and expanded into customized risk and impact assessment services. Paige has worked in finance and community development for more than three decades. She joined ShoreBank Corporation in 1987 as one of the founders of ShoreBank Advisory Services (SAS) and served as CEO beginning in 1991. Paige was one of the founders of ShoreBank Pacific, a federally regulated depository, and in 1997 joined the Bank’s management team and board of directors. Prior to CARS, she led a national consulting practice focused on market-based strategies and innovations in development finance. Paige received her B.A. from Northwestern University.
Aaron Grzywinski has 20 years of experience with operational information systems, ranging from eCommerce, to ERP finance and logistics, to custom-built back-office applications. His work has moved him through small regional organizations, to public utilities, and in to large international technology companies. More recently Aaron has shifted his expertise and passion towards socially oriented institutions, helping these organizations scale, develop operational rigor and efficiency, and move towards data-driven decisions and outputs. At Aeris, Aaron continues that work, driving Data Services to develop products that put data in the hands of those that need it, and helping investors align their investments with their priorities.
Helen Leung has 30 years of experience in the international and domestic financial services field, in markets including investment banking, international trade banking, U.S. domestic commercial and retail banking, and areas of business development, corporate risk management, product development and management, as well as credit management, policies, processes, and operations. From 2007 to 2010, she served as the Chief Operating Officer of Opportunity Finance Network. Since 2010, she has continued her association with Aeris, serving as quality reviewer for rating reports and annual reviews, taking on the additional role of Director of Operations in 2016. She is also an independent management consultant specializing in strategic and business development, organizational development and risk management consulting for CDFIs, and other non-profits.
Karen has a decade of experience working with Aeris, first as an analyst and then joining the organization full time in 2013. As an independent consultant, her practice included strategy development for program-related investment (PRI) and grant programs and financial and program analysis of PRI investments and grant candidates. Prior to consulting, Karen worked as a Program Officer at the MacArthur Foundation (1997 – 2002) and Director of Finance and Lending at the IFF (1995 – 1997). Karen received her MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and her BS from Miami University of Ohio.
Jon Schwartz has worked with Aeris since its creation in 2004 as a program of OFN. Jon oversees the operations team responsible for Aeris’ ratings reports and data. Prior to Aeris, Jon was a senior associate at OFN, where he coordinated data collection efforts, evaluated membership applications, and led several aspects of the Wells Fargo NEXT Awards. Jon worked in the advertising industry and for the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania prior to joining OFN. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in History and Communications.
Matthew Royles has ten years of experience working in communications and development in the CDFI industry, in that time generating $10 million in revenue for CDFIs. Prior to joining Aeris in 2014, Matthew was Vice President of Development for Opportunity Finance Network. He has also worked for Accion East, one of the nation’s largest microlenders, and CDVCA, the association of community development venture capital funds. Matthew has a B.A. from Bates College and an M.B.A. from the Fox School of Business at Temple University.
Aeris Rating Reports are created by staff and contract analysts with the most extensive knowledge about CDFIs in the industry. Aeris’ roster of analysts includes 18 finance professionals with decades of expertise in CDFI underwriting and specialization in affordable housing, small business, commercial and community facilities financing. Past positions held by Aeris analysts include: Vice President, IFF; senior credit analyst, a regional community bank; senior affordable housing lender, U.S. Bank, manager, a $150 million micro- and small business facility at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London. Aeris analysts have earned masters’ degrees in business, finance, and related disciplines from the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University, The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and New York University (Stern School of Business).
